Finally got a blender I love?
Hi, my name is Jewel, I have a weird obsession with blenders, cakes, and ice creams. Yes, I'm a dietitian and I love sweets. I believe in balance and mindful eating. But let's not get carried away from the star of the show, my ninja blender & soup maker. If you follow me on Instagram or have read my previous posts, you know I was on the hunt for a good blender.
Earlier this year I got rid of my Rusell Hobbs blender (Gave it to my dear neighbour), and since my Nutri bullet jar broke down I decided to look for a blender. After a quick internet search, I came across ninja blenders being all the hype. Now ninja offers, 2 different types of blenders, one being a blender with a personal jar and the other being a blender and a soup maker. Bingo! A blender that blends and cooks? YES PLEASE.
I purchased the blender in February this year from Argos for £149. I have been using it regularly for the last 5 months before I review it. Here are a few pros and cons of the blender in my point of view.
Pros-
- Easy to use programs. It has 10 Pre-set programs like milkshakes, smoothies, saute, chop. And manual functions as well to blend and cook on low to high settings.
- I have made smoothies in different types of blenders, and when I use frozen fruits I always feel the tiny ice crystals in my drink, but that's something I didn't come across even after multiple frozen smoothies, and frozen margaritas!
- One-pot soup, I have made several soups in this blender, from chicken and potato to lentil soups. I have made everything in the blender. It chops and sautes the onion, boils and cooks the soup, and even keeps it warm until you are ready to have it!
- If you are a soup in the winter fan like me, you know how it is important to have chunks in some soups. This blender has two settings for soup, chunky and smooth. I use the chunky soup option for my chicken soups as I like the chicken chunks in my warm soup. I have used the smooth soup setting to make asparagus/broccoli/mushroom soup. I do not use cream but this setting on the blender gives the creamiest soup ever!
- I have also used the ice cream option on this blender, I used frozen bananas and chocolate chips to get the creamiest nice cream. I haven't tried making a sorbet but I'm sure it will be just as good.
- I also made mango jam in this blender, that's right, JAM in a blender! Turned out perfect (recipe on my TikTok)
- I have tried different sauces as well, pretty good and definitely less messy.
- My biggest concern with the other blenders was that it required a lot of the liquid to blend and would 'water down' my hummus or dips. Hence, I had to try making hummus in this blender, and to my surprise, it did do very well, I did not have to add too much olive oil, and the tampa provided with the blender helps push the ingredients down while blending.
Cons-
- One of the biggest disadvantages for me was the cleaning of this blender. It's quite hard to get it cleaned well as one would with a regular blender. The base of this blender has a built-in heating element that connects to the base, hence the base cannot be washed or come in contact with water. But, the blender comes with a CLEAN setting, which requires 700ml water and 2 drops of liquid detergent. It mixes and heats up the jug while cleaning it.
- A common complaint about this blender is that it's very heavy to hold, and I agree. I usually need two hands to hold it while I pour out of it. It's heavy because the jug is made out of thick glass to heat up the food well. Big biceps here I come!
Apart from this, I really do enjoy using this blender. Especially for soups and smoothies. It gets the textures just right. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good blender with multiple uses. It is a bit expensive but worth the price.
Please note, this post is not sponsored by Argos or Ninja, it is my 100% honest review.
